Judge/Executive Steve Pendery Joins Groundbreaking for June Gardens, New Newport Housing That Will Strengthen Northern Kentucky's Workforce

Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery joined Brighton Properties and other community leaders to break ground on June Gardens, a new 12-home community in Newport that will provide stable housing for working families across Northern Kentucky.

Judge/Executive Pendery spoke at the ceremony and said the entire region will benefit from June Gardens, not just Newport or Campbell County.

"If we don't provide those people some place to live, we're not going to have the talent we need to move this community forward," said Judge/Executive Pendery.

June Gardens will include 12 new homes spread across three Newport streets. Ten of the homes will be built on Ann Street, with one on Roberts Street and one on Brighton Street, the very street that gave Brighton Center its name. The project will offer six one bedroom homes, four two bedroom homes, and two three bedroom homes, designed by Hub and Weber Architects.

The rent at June Gardens will be set to match what working families in our area actually earn. This is often called workforce housing because it helps the people who work in our community afford to live here. Brighton Properties, a nonprofit affiliated with Brighton Center, will manage the property.

The Kentucky Housing Corporation invested more than 6.3 million dollars in June Gardens. The Kentucky Housing Corporation is a state agency that helps fund safe and affordable housing across Kentucky. Without this kind of investment, projects like June Gardens would not be possible.

June Gardens is one piece of a much larger Northern Kentucky effort to make sure that everyone who works here can also afford to live here. Campbell County, Kenton County, and Boone County all benefit when families have stable homes close to the jobs that fuel our local economy.

Judge/Executive Pendery thanked Brighton Center and Brighton Properties for their long history of helping families in Newport and across the region.
